Work Development Program
BrightQuest’s aim is for each of our clients to leave with the skills and confidence needed to achieve the life and goals they desire.
Finding meaningful activities is an important part of establishing a routine and developing independence. To help our community members with this, we offer a Work Development Program. Those who choose to participate in this program have the opportunity to enter a new career or attend school through our Work Development or Education Development Track.
Our program covers key skills such as:
- Managing appointments and planning ahead to ensure on-time arrival at work or school
- Budgeting finances
- Achieving work-life balance
- Effectively working and socializing with colleagues and classmates
- Managing functional elements of work, such as vacation and sick days
Foundational Skills
To prepare clients for success in a new role or school, we utilize a step-by-step approach to help them become more comfortable taking on increasing responsibilities. This includes practicing skills through volunteer opportunities before seeking a new job or enrolling in school. During the volunteer period, clients can receive feedback from their peers, BrightQuest staff, and volunteer site coordinators to identify areas for continued growth, these areas may include:
- Communication skills
- Organizational skills
- Securing transportation
- Symptom management
Work Development Track
We provide comprehensive support and skills development for clients seeking meaningful roles in the community. Our work development coordinators partner with each client to complete assessments that identify their interests, strengths, and career goals. From there, we offer hands-on assistance with job searches, applications, and interview preparation to help them confidently pursue opportunities they will enjoy. Once clients secure a role, our team continues to offer guidance, helping them manage their schedules, stay organized, and feel prepared for their daily responsibilities and workplace expectations.
Education Development Track
For clients interested in pursuing their education, the BrightQuest team helps identify programs that align with their interests, goals, and abilities. We also provide hands-on support throughout the application process, course registration, and ongoing assistance with managing class schedules, assignments, and study time. Our goal is to help clients build strong academic habits and essential skills, empowering them to succeed both in the classroom and in their future careers.
Those in our Work Development and Education Development Program are also encouraged to explore outside learning opportunities such as:
- Participating in networking events
- Working towards certifications that may interest them
- Visiting colleges
- Attending study groups
These activities can lead to a more well-rounded experience as clients connect with and learn from others.
This is a holistic program created to prepare our clients for the new experiences and challenges that they are likely to encounter as they pursue their goals. Clients are supported each step of the way, allowing them to progress with confidence as they learn new skills and take on new roles.
